Choirs and Choruses
This list will assist singers in finding musical opportunities in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. It can also be used to find concert information from choirs of interest.
Before joining or auditioning for a choir, it is best to view the choir’s website and attend at least once concert. Some choirs allow potential members to participate in a couple rehearsals, but please check with the director or choir representative beforehand.
Some choirs indicated that sight reading is not required, but it is always an asset to have some sight reading ability. If you are a beginner singer, you may feel more comfortable joining your local church choir as they are almost always looking for choristers and are forgiving in terms of sight reading ability.

Recorder Ensemble
The Carleton Recorder Group directed by Jennifer Davis welcomes intermediate to advanced players (ability to play all sizes not necessary).
The group meets Thursdays from 1:15 pm to approximately 3:45 starting in early October, at the Agudath Israel Synagogue, Laperriere Avenue entrance just west of Kirkwood Avenue.
If interested, people should come and sit in on a session to see if the group suits them.
Please contact Jennifer at , or 613-224-8205 for further information.
Handbells Choir
The Emmanubells are related to Emmanuel United Church on Smyth Road. Members of the group do not have to be members of the church - just willing to attend services on the dates they play.
The group has space for new people who can read music. They must be willing to commit to attending regular rehearsals.
Due to construction work at Emmanuel Church, the Emmanubells are rehearsing on Thursday evenings at Gloucester Presbyterian Church. For the duration of the construction we are worshipping at Rideau Park United Church on Alta Vista Drive at 11:15 am. Normal services once we return to Emmanuel United (hopefully early in 2011) are at 10 am and the bells play approximately once a month.
The bells' web site is at http://www.emmanuelunited.ca/music/bells.php and the schedule page is at http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Bells/schedule.html. For more information, contact the Director, Ann Frederking, at , or phone 613-749-5815.
Adult Amateur Pianists Group
Our group holds informal gatherings of adult pianists of mixed abilities and a range of ages, who get together to play, to socialize, and to have tea/coffee and biscuits!
The group gets together about once a month, normally on the third Sunday afternoon of each month. Some participants volunteer to host the gatherings at their homes.
The purpose is to socialize and meet other adult pianists, and to play -- to try out new pieces or old favourites and to hear what others are playing, as well as to practice performing in a non-judgmental environment.
All levels and all styles of piano playing are welcome. If you are interesting in participating, please contact Liz Watford at .
