Week 3 (July 8)
-
July 8 - July15 2012 — Chamber Music, Voice, Harp, Piano and Eastern European Music
- Director Francis Colpron
- Assistant Director Jean-Pierre Brunet
It is with great pleasure that we will once again welcome the Alcan Quartet and harpist Sharlene Wallace. We are also excited to add some Eastern European music classes to this week. Accordionist Sergiu Popa is a master of East European traditional music styles and currently recognized as one of Canada’s top accordionists. He and his wife, violinist Jessica Gal (together known as the Shatra Duo), will offer an introductory-level course in East European styles (folk, Gypsy and Klezmer) for classical music players. All intermediate-to-advanced instrumentalists welcome, and a vocal group could be organized as well. Parallel to the music course, folk dances from across the region of Eastern Europe will be taught to children’s and adult groups by expert instructors Cristian Florescu and Sonia Dion. Participants in the music class will have the opportunity to provide live musical accompaniment for dancers by the end of the week.
