CAMMAC’s Come Sing Messiah!

Handel goes online with organist Matthew Larkin, in a Kevin Reeves production.

“BRAVO!  Fabulous production and many thanks for keeping our tradition alive! Loved the interviews, the soloists, the shots of the choir and especially Matthew’s jazzy take on Herr Handel.” – Angela and Patrick Kelly

Each December since 1987, CAMMAC Ottawa-Gatineau has staged “Come Sing Messiah”, a production which gathers hundreds of choir singers together in Ottawa’s Dominion-Chalmers to sing Handel’s great choral work, conducted by Louis Lavigueur.

Unable to come together in 2020 for this annual holiday extravaganza due to the pandemic, CAMMAC Ottawa-Gatineau refused to be daunted and instead, they have brought the Messiah online. Organist and choir conductor Matthew Larkin and producer Kevin Reeves have put together a documentary that includes excerpts from Richard Burman’s video of CAMMAC’s 25th Messiah (permission of Richard Burman’s estate), and photos by Richard Guy Briggs and Graham Carpenter. The show concludes with a wonderful jazzy version of the Messiah on the piano by Matthew Larkin. Introduction with Guylaine Lemaire, Artistic Director of CAMMAC.
