Now that CAMMAC’s 70th-anniversary celebrations have drawn to a close, we have one final creation to share…

HYMNE DE CAMMAC:

A Virtual Choir Project

Written and arranged by Mélodie Rabatel
Video Production by Kevin O’Neal

Composed and arranged by Mélodie Rabatel in response to the pandemic, the song celebrates the many aspects of attending programs at the CAMMAC Music Centre that bring us so much joy.

With the help of Kevin O’Neil and the collaboration of many members, teachers and friends, Mélodie put together this virtual choir project that we hope will bring to mind great memories of your own time at CAMMAC, as well as inspire many more people to come spend some time with us in the future.

Marc Djokic (violin), Mathieu Deveau (violin), Elvira Misbakhova (viola), Julian Armour (cello)

Reflecting on her inspiration for Hymne de CAMMAC, choral director and CAMMAC teacher Mélodie Rabatel shared:

“For many years, I have led the choir for all ages during the CAMMAC Music Centre’s intergenerational Spring Break camp. It has been my tradition to compose a song during the week for the participants to perform.

When the pandemic forced us all into isolation and prevented us from gathering together to sing, I responded to our new reality with the idea of creating a song that could be learned and performed remotely.

My hope was that the song would bring some much-needed joy to these challenging times, while also sustaining the bonds among those who share a deep love for CAMMAC. At the same time, I wanted to pay tribute to the wonderful camp that we all longed to visit once again.”

Once the song was composed, Mélodie set the virtual choir project into motion. With the assistance of Kevin O’Neil, she created a template and tracks to which people could sing and recorded her vocals while accompanying herself on the piano. Members, teachers and friends of CAMMAC were invited to submit recordings of their parts, which Kevin O’Neil edited and compiled to create this touching video.
