It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Monte Swartzman z’l, at the age of 92, from complications of COVID-19.

MONTE THEODORE SWARTZMAN
March 10, 1928 – January 14 , 2021

Mr. Swartzman is survived by his loving wife of 71 years – Rama, his daughters and sons-in-law – Leora and Allan, Mia and Menahem, Elana and Scott, his grandchildren – Etan, Aviva, Yariv, Tal, Noam, Isaac, Johanna. Son of the late Freda Perlmutter and late Edward Swartzman, brother of the late Ernie and late Moishe Swartzman.

Monte led life to the fullest – as an architect, musician (the contrabass recorder was his close companion), amazing harmonica player, adept whistler, chocolatier par excellence, photographer, avid wild berry picker, skier and windsurfer enthusiast / instructor to his kids and grandkids, and traveller to many far-flung nature laden destinations – memorable trips shared with Rama.

A man of few words, Monte had a gentle disposition and a good heart, humbly helping family, friends and neighbours alike with tasks big and small. He will be remembered and deeply cherished by his family, sister-in-law Sara, nieces and nephews, lifelong ‘Shomer Hatzair’ friends and his MRS / Flutissimo music family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maimonides for their attentive and compassionate care and we are so grateful to his caregivers – Janet, Rose, Joy and Leny. Graveside funeral and shiva will be private due to COVID. Donations in Monte’s memory may be made to the JPL – the library that sustained him with a wealth of books (jewishpubliclibrary.org) 514.734-1401, CAMMAC Music Centre (www.cammac.ca/en/) 1-888-622-8755, or to a charity of your choice.
