It is with great sadness that we have learned of the recent passing of a long-time CAMMAC member, Peter Lowensteyn. He is survived by his daughters Wanda (James Riordon) and Ilka (Michael McMurray) and his four grandchildren: Teague, Ainsley, Reilly, and Cailin. He is predeceased by his wife Janny and son Darren. We extend our deepest condolences to Wanda, Ilka, and all their loved ones.

Peter was a passionate music lover who, over the past six decades and more, made significant contributions to CAMMAC’s success story. In addition to serving on CAMMAC’s Board of Directors, he played a vital role in CAMMAC’s communications efforts, collaborating on the publication of the journal The Amateur Musician / Le Musicien Amateur and CAMMAC Montreal’s newsletter, L’Express. Always at the forefront of technological advancements, he, along with Claudia Morawetz, created CAMMAC’s first website, at a time when few organizations had ventured into this new realm of communication. Peter continued to manage CAMMAC Montreal’s website until his retirement in September of this year. This tall and joyful gentleman will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday December 10th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fritz Community Centre (20477 Lakeshore Road, Baie-D’Urfé, Quebec, H9X 1R3).

We invite you to leave a message of condolences to Peter’s family at the following link.

In loving memory of Peter and in honour of his lifelong love of music, his family kindly requests that donations be made to the CAMMAC Music Centre, a place close to Peter and his family’s hearts for many decades.
