Join us for Open House Days!

Amateur musicians of all ages (adults, teens and kids) are invited to come and enjoy the CAMMAC experience for a day.  

Bring your instrument and your bathing suit, and get ready to have fun!

Discover all the great activities CAMMAC has to offer: music classes, choir, arts & crafts, tennis, swimming, and more. Whether you are a beginner who doesn’t know how to read music, a keen intermediate seeking to improve your skills, or an experienced musician yearning for a fresh challenge, you’ll find classes and activities to suit your needs. And after afternoon classes, you are welcome to stay for supper and evening activities.

Children and teenagers are also welcome to join us on Open House Days, provided they are accompanied by a parent on-site.

NEW THIS YEAR… Open House Days for CAMMAC Members!

In the past, Open House Days were reserved exclusively for new participants who had never attended retreats at the Music Centre. This year, we have a limited number of places available for anyone who is already CAMMAC Member, but who cannot attend a full week this summer.

So why not come come spend a day making music at CAMMAC? Come on your own or bring musical friends or family who has never had the chance to attend a music retreat at the CAMMAC Music Centre. There is no charge for Open House Days, all you have to do is register!

Programs run from Sunday to Sunday. Each week has a distinct theme and provides a diverse selection of classes!

WEEK 1 – HARMONY IN NATURE (June 30 to July 7, 2024)

→ Open House Day: TUESDAY JULY 2

Your musical start to the summer, where every note resonates with the spirit of the great outdoors. Join us for a week where music and nature come together. From a cappella classes by the lake to rejuvenating early morning yoga sessions, the varied program offers the perfect backdrop for participants of all ages and skill levels to tune into the rhythms of the natural world.

WEEK 2 – THROUGH THE AGES: EARLY MUSIC WEEK (July 7 to July 14, 2024)

→ Open House Day: FRIDAY JULY 12

An exciting week of immersion into the world of Early Music. This is your chance to study with some of Canada’s top early music specialists in a relaxed and friendly environment. Work on your your technique and improve your ensemble skills while gaining a greater stylistic understanding of classical music from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque periods.

WEEK 3 – ENSEMBLE EXPLORATIONS: A WEEK OF ORCHESTRAL, CHAMBER & CHORAL IMMERSION (July 14 to July 21, 2024)

→ Open House Day: FRIDAY JULY 19

Experience the joys of ensemble music in a supportive and inspiring environment, with friends new and old. This week’s curriculum will provide an enriching experience for musicians wanting to improve their ensemble playing and singing skills. Plus: recorder, piano, guitar, yoga, dance, visual arts and more.

WEEK 4 – CELTIC AND CLASSICAL EXPRESSIONS (July 21 to July 28, 2024)

→ Open House Day: FRIDAY JULY 26

From the stirring sounds of the Emerald Isle to the elegant tones of Mendelssohn and Motzart, immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of classical and Celtic music. The choir will study and perform Mendelssohn’s Psalm No. 42, along with a selection of evocative Irish-inspired choral works. Instrumentalists will explore orchestra repertoire in a chamber music setting, with symphonies by Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart (for strings, winds and piano). Harpists of all ages and levels will a Celtic harp program that adds a special colour to this program – yes, kids and teens too! Plus, piano, recorder, dance, yoga and more.

WEEK 5 – WHERE JAZZ MEETS CLASSICAL (July 28 to August 4, 2024)

→ Open House Day: FRIDAY AUGUST 2

An exciting week that offers the best of both worlds. Dive into the intersection of jazz and classical music during this high-energy week! Explore the rich traditions of both genres through a diverse range of classes. From mastering the French horn to exploring advanced jazz piano, Week 5 offers the summer’s most extensive list of classes and workshops. Whether you’re looking to refine your skills as a chamber musician or a jazz vocalist, or you crave the thrill of late-night jam sessions, this program has something for you.

WEEK 6 – SOUNDS OF SUMMER: FROM CLASSICAL TO POP (August 4 to August 11, 2024)

→ Open House Day: TUESDAY AUGUST 6

With summer in full swing, Week 6 strikes the perfect balance between serious study and summer fun, for musicians of all levels. An eclectic week featuring a selection of choral repertoire for both newcomers to choral singing and for more advanced chorists, plus a vocal masterclass, small vocal ensembles, chamber music, a mini piano-intensive program, recorder, percussion, dance, origami, yoga and more. It’s a great week for guitarists as well with popular and classical guitar classes available for all levels. And if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at song arrangement, this is the week for you!

WEEK 7 – THE BEST OF BROADWAY, BLUES… AND MOTOWN! (August 11 to August 18, 2024)

→ Open House Day: TUESDAY AUGUST 13

This week celebrates the iconic sounds of America – from soaring vocals to soulful expression, by way of Motor City’s Motown grooves. This week’s program offers you a wide range of exciting possibilities: experience the thrill of performing in a Broadway musical, master the blues scale, and even try your hand at song-writing. Choral conductor Marg Stubington will select an eclectic repertoire of celebratory music for singers of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Other classes include Broadway piano, ukulele and song writing. And a whole lot more!

WEEK 8 – MUSICAL FUSIONS EXTRAVAGANZA (August 18 to August 25, 2024)

→ Open House Day: TUESDAY AUGUST 20

Expand your musical horizons as you explore a rich tapestry of sounds from the global music scene. There’s a real buzz around Week 8 at CAMMAC! Our newest program invites you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new as you explore musical and cultural influences from around the world. From chamber music to gamelan, participants of all ages will explore a range of musical fusions together, blending world music, jazz, blues, pop, rock, gospel and classical styles. The focus is on collaboration and experimentation, with a wide range of opportunities for all to sing, play, create and perform. Plus, enjoy the relaxing benefits of a special focus on wellness, with tai chi and mindful meditation in nature.

Registration is mandatory for each person attending an Open House Day.
You must register AT LEAST 24 HOURS before your visit.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OPEN HOUSE DAYS

Open House Days are offered at no charge for newcomers to the Music Centre.

Please note that you may attend only one Open House Day.

 

ARRIVAL: We ask that you arrive between 8:00 and 8:15 a.m., so that you may meet your guide for the day at reception at 8:15.

The day begins at 8h30 with the participants’ meeting and morning concert. Your guide will give you a tour of the Music Centre and all the information you’ll need for the day.

Lunch is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. You can purchase meal tickets for lunch and supper on-site, or you are welcome to bring your lunch. Vegetarian and gluten-free meal options are available if you advise us of your needs in advance. Coffee, tea, cold drinks, and snacks are available throughout the day at the Tuck Shop.

Some Open House Day participants choose to leave after afternoon classes, but many stay for supper and evening activities. It’s entirely up to you!

 

WHAT TO BRING:
Bring your instrument, if you play one, a notebook, a bathing suit, a towel, a bottle of water, and anything else you think you might need for the day. We suggest that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes. A rain jacket or umbrella can be useful if it’s raining, as some of our classes take place in studios in the woods.

If you decide that you’d like to register to attend a Music Retreat this summer, a $100 discount on program fees is available for first-time participants.
