WEEK 5: July 23 to 30, 2023

Where Jazz meets Classical

An exciting experience that offers the best of both worlds where jazz and classical music intersect.

Explore the rich and diverse traditions from both classical and jazz music during this high-energy week. From French horn to advanced jazz piano, Week 5 features the summer’s most extensive list of vocal and instrumental classes, along with plenty of opportunities to perform and jam late into the night, for jazz and classical musicians alike. Participate in large and small classical ensembles, jazz combos, jazz vocal ensembles, brass ensembles, stage and concert bands and more. Stretch your limits by focusing on one style or sample the expressive ranges of both genres… it’s all up to you!

WHAT’S NEW + PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

All things classical: often known as “Jazz week” at CAMMAC, Week 5 also offers a full course curriculum to satisfy classical musicians of all levels, including a chamber music program and various instrumental classes. Special note to brass players – this is your week to join our chamber music program.

Fitzgerald and Ellington said it best… It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing! Participants will get the chance to work closely with some of Canada’s top jazz musicians this week. With everything from percussion to piano on the schedule, jazz aficionados of all levels will be able to hone their chops in a fun, focused and supportive environment. Get great coaching on all the skills that will help you to take your improvisation, ensemble, and solo skills to the next level while having a great time with a group of musicians who share your passion for all things jazz.

… and why not both? Classical and jazz musicians will increase their versatility by sampling classes from each genre. Classical musicians can experience jazz’s melodic verve, focus on rhythm, and the creative process of improvisation, while jazz habitués can sharpen their fundamental instrumental or vocal technique, improve their sight reading and find out what it’s like to work with a conductor. So why not broaden your horizons and try something new this week?

Jam sessions for all: often continuing well into the early morning hours, jam sessions at CAMMAC are a legendary experience. Here are a few great tips to help you make the most of your jam sessions: CLICK HERE
