WEEK 8: Sunday August 18 to Sunday August 25, 2024

Musical Fusions Extravaganza

Expand your musical horizons as you explore a rich tapestry of sounds from the global music scene.

There’s a real buzz around Week 8 at CAMMAC! Launched in 2022, our newest program invites you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new as you explore musical and cultural influences from around the world. From chamber music to gamelan, participants of all ages will explore a range of musical fusions together, blending world music, jazz, blues, pop, rock, gospel, and classical styles. The focus is on collaboration and experimentation, with a wide range of opportunities for all to sing, play, create, and perform. Plus, enjoy the relaxing benefits of a special focus on wellness, with tai chi and mindful meditation in nature.

WHAT’S NEW + PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

NEW
+
Gamelan and Balinese dance: music and movement in harmony.
Week 8 offers a unique opportunity for participants to discover the traditions of the Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese peoples. Gamelan, featuring primarily metallophones, gongs, hand drums, and often flutes, voices, and more, is deeply intertwined with Balinese dance, serving as its rhythmic foundation and emotional expression for performances celebrating Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Through a series of workshops led by master practitioners, you’ll learn the basics of gamelan and the different styles of Balinese dance. At the end of the week, you’ll take part in a final performance, putting your newly acquired skills into practice and experiencing the unique synergy between gamelan and dance.

NEW
+
Experience the collaborative and creative heart of jazz.
A new mini-jazz program offers participants the opportunity to work in combos and explore improvisation in jam sessions.

+ Explore artistic expression in a fun and supportive environment.
Through collaborative workshops on musical creation, songwriting, improvisation, and arranging, participants will explore the possibilities of blending musical genres, traditions, and cultures.

Wellness is an important part of every musician’s repertoire: reap the benefits of two workshops focusing on mindfulness.
Cultivate present-moment awareness and inner peace by experiencing the calming sights and sounds of CAMMAC’s natural environment in mindful meditation sessions with Dr. Moire Stevenson.
In addition, improve your balance, coordination, and flexibility, while reducing stress and anxiety by taking a tai chi workshop with Jean-Hubert Gagnon (Comme des nuages).

NEW
+
Informal French conversation sessions will be held at the beginning of each week.

NEW
+
Two initiatives designed to help new participants make the most of their time at CAMMAC.
In the weeks leading up to the program, we will be reaching out to new participants to answer any questions they may have and help them prepare for their week at the Music Center. In addition, we will be implementing a buddy system where each new participant will be paired with a more experienced member who will act as a guide and provide orientation throughout the week.

If you are registering with children for camping or as an off-site participant, you may experience difficulty with the online reservation system. In this case, please call us to make your reservation.
