Canadian pianist Anouk Marks is entering her third year of Piano Performance studies at the University of Ottawa, where she studies under David Jalbert, Head of the Piano Department.
Born into a family of musicians, Anouk began focusing seriously on piano at the age of 11. Since then, she has earned numerous distinctions through the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, the Kiwanis Music Festival, and the Ottawa Piano Festival. Her former teachers include Jean Desmarais, Professor Emeritus at both the Crane School of Music and the University of Ottawa.
Anouk comes from a musical family that includes many professional musicians performing in Canada’s top orchestras. Through these connections, she has had the privilege of performing alongside seasoned artists – an experience that has fostered a deep love for chamber music.
She regularly performs in health care facilities as a member of the Radical Connections Association and has participated in chamber music festivals such as Point Counterpoint (Vermont, USA) and the Scotia Festival of Music (Halifax). She attended Domaine Forget in the summer of 2023 and Orford Music Academy in 2024.
In December 2024, Anouk and her piano quartet were finalists in the University of Ottawa’s Chamber Music Competition, and they went on to perform the Schumann Piano Quartet at the National Arts Centre in the spring.
An accomplished singer as well as a pianist, Anouk has been involved in Ottawa-based choirs since the age of 8. She currently sings with the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir, where she also serves as the piano and conducting intern.
In addition to performing, Anouk teaches piano and runs a small private studio in Wakefield, QC.
