BOB BACHELOR
1951-2026
It is with great sadness that CAMMAC shares the news of the unexpected passing of Bob Bachelor, on April 14, 2026.
Bob was a beloved member of the CAMMAC community, where he served for many years as the Broadway choir director and masterclass teacher during Week 7 of the Summer Music Retreats. Throughout his time at CAMMAC, his warmth, humour, and extraordinary musicianship made him one of the most cherished and anticipated presences of the summer season, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of singing and learning with him.
Bob was a central figure in the Montreal performing arts world. He was the founder and long-time Musical and Artistic Director of The Lyric Theatre Singers, which he established in 1990 and led with passion and dedication for over three decades, building a ensemble with a strong sense of artistic community and shared purpose. In 2020, his contributions to choral music in Quebec were recognized with the prestigious Jean-Pierre Guindon Award – a fitting tribute to a career spanning nearly five decades of mentorship and musical leadership.
Bob will be remembered as a mentor, an educator, and someone with a remarkable ability to bring out the best in those around him. His belief in the power of music to build community was evident in everything he did.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his husband Jacques, his family, and his many friends across the communities he enriched. He will be remembered with great fondness and gratitude by the CAMMAC community.
